TPS1H100-Q1: TPS1H100-Q1, TPS1H160-Q1 the setting of masking time in case of current limit reached

Part Number: TPS1H100-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS1H100B-Q1

Hi all

Would you mind if we ask TPS1H100-Q1 or TPS1H160-Q1?

Our customer's condtion is the follow;
- 24V, 6A, 20us
We guess that it is not matter to use with this condtion.
As our customer's request, if the current keeps flowing more than 30us with 6A, our customer would the device to stop outputting.
So, is it possible to set the masking time(30us) in case of current limit reached(6A setting)?

Kind regards,

Hirotaka Matsumoto

  • Hello, please let me first understand the application:

    1- Supply voltage is 24V. Is it correct?

    2- Load current nominal?

    3- Is it a capacitive load?

    4- for what reason the current reaches 6A?

    5- Why customer want to limit the timing to 30uS if the current is 6A?

    Regards, Mahmoud

  • Hello Mahmoud san

    Thank you for your reply!

    1- Supply voltage is 24V. Is it correct?
    ->Yes、Vs=24V

    2- Load current nominal?
    ->1Sec cycle.
        On time term : 6A, 20us  OFF time term : 0A, 0.99998sec(1sec-20us)

    3- Is it a capacitive load?
    ->No, LED

    4- for what reason the current reaches 6A?
    ->The application is flash light for security camera. Momentarily, it requires high current.

    5- Why customer want to limit the timing to 30uS if the current is 6A?
    ->Usually, operation time is only less than 30us. So, if 6A over than 30us is abnormal case, that's why our customer would like to let the device stop outputting.

    Kind regards,

  • Hirotaka-san, thanks for the inputs and here are my comment:
    1- TPS1H100B-Q1 recommended operating DC current is 4A and 6A pulsed current should be OK
    2- The device can handle the power with no issue
    3- The current can be limited to 6A by connecting around 400 Ohms resistor on CL pin
    4- The CS pin monitors and reports the current status in real time
    5- The LED ON/OFF current is controlled with IN pin
    6- The only thing you need to take in consideration is the timing (TPS1H100-Q1 datasheet pages 8 and 9)

    Please check the timing and let me know if you have question.

    Regards, Mahmoud
