TPS60240: Start-up Phase problem

Part Number: TPS60240

Hello,

I am designing a new application and am testing  the CHARGE PUMP TPS60240.

The charge pump needs to output 3.3V and 2mA and the supply of this charge pump is a small RF power supply (energy harvesting) which outputs about 2.2V and 5mA maximum.

However the app does not work since the TPS60240, in start-up phase, outputs almost 1,4 V-1.7V and consumes 25 mA, which after had overcome the 1.8V (minimum working voltage) it consumes 0.5mA (correct functioning).

In addition my power supply can not deliver 25mA and so the system does not work and the TPS60240 does not work (does not start at all)

On ti.com I saw there is an App Note (reported below) which describes soft start. But I cannot understand how I can link my problem with this AppNote or if you have any advice for me I would be happy to listen!

Do you have any advice? Or should I change the component?

Many Thanks,

  • Hi
I wanted to let you know that the engineer in charge of this issue is out of the office, he will be back in the office next week.
I guess you might be able to see an improvement if you add a large capacitor at the input of the charge pump.
