BQ20Z655-R1: Weird FET Control bit set

Part Number: BQ20Z655-R1

I have a unit that was out in the field and sent back for what appears to be no DSG. When I connect to the unit (via SMB), this is what I get:

The FET control is set to RSVD (x0001). How would it get like this? It was sent out as x0004. SLUU493A states that it should never be set to 1, yet it is...

  • Hi JDrulia,
There are two possibilities that come to mind if indeed that unit shipped out without the RSVD bit initially set:
    - Your host or another device on the line may have inadvertently written to that register if the device wasn't shipped in sealed mode or
-ESD caused the flag to get set.

Either way, extract an srec or senc so you can have an image of the IC in the failed state, then clear that flag and see if the device returns to normal functionality.
    thanks
