Bq 34Z100-G1 The charge and discharge in the learning mode

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100, BQSTUDIO

Hello. Want to ask a few questions about the learning mode Bq34z100. The charge mode or discharge mode in the learning process must go continuously? Is it permissible to run the charge multiple stages, or it must be a single continuous time interval? What load do you recommend to use in the learning process - it should be electronic load with a stable current, or powerful enough resistor? And finally, please recommend what currents it is better to use in the process of learning. Thanks for the help.

  • Hi Alexey,

The learning process must continue continuously and not in bits or stages . I recommend you log using bqstudio the registers of the gauge during the learning cycle process.

For the learn load, it should be a stable constant current. Use an electronic load. Discharge rate should be bw C/5 and C/10. I always use c/7

    thanks

  • Hello Onyx, thanks for the reply.
Large capacity batteries take a long time for a learning cycle. Is it possible to apply an image of one battery to the battery of the same type with the same cells but with a large number of Parallels? Because of the larger number of cells in parallel, changing the resistance of the cell, and other parameters, which will measure the Gauge. Which parameters need to adjust, and is it possible?

For example, I want to use the battery 8S1P, to make it a learning mode, and then using the data obtained Qmax for the same grade, used in battery 8S42P. (Qmax 1P * 42). Is this possible, or is it better to train each type of the battery individually?
  • Hi Alexey,
The preference would be to have the gauge learn the actual pack but you can actually learn just 1P, and then divide the resistance table by the number of cells in parallel and multiply the qmax by the number of cells in parallel. The gauge will learn the actual resistance and the resistance of the connecting tabs anyway during use.

You have to be cognizant of the limit though of the registers though which is 2^16. You may have to use the scaling approach discussed in the app note below.

  • hi Onyx, thanks for the help. I have this Datasheet. Please tell me, in some datasheets it is written that when using the current scaling is to scale all of the current and capacitance parameters. Do I need to scale the parameters such as Taper Current, Min Taper Capacity in Menu "Charge Termination", and Current Thresholds and Res Current (IT Cfg) in Gas Gauging Menu?

And one more question. I used two test batteries on the same cells. The first battery 4s1p second battery 4s4p.. Learning Cycle went well, I received the status update 06, the gauge corrected values of Qmax.
Value Qmax for the one cell to 4s1p and 4s4p almost the same - which is good, Qmax for 4s4p/4s1p = 4..
But when comparing the tables of resistances, I have values, in which there is no proportional differences.Ra1(4s1p)/Ra1(4s4p) is not equal to 4, and equals for example 3..And Ra2(4s1p)/Ra2(4s4p) is equal to 1.5...and so on..
  • Hi Alexey
the gauge will relearn resistance while in the field. As long as qmax is correct you should be ok.
For your first question, yes you need to scale those parameters.

    thanks
