BQ20Z45-R1: Unable to read .senc file from bqEVSW

Part Number: BQ20Z45-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQEVSW, EV2400

After following the procedure to optimize my fuel gauge settings ( http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slua334b/slua334b.pdf ) I am ready to extract the .senc file for the production packs.

I followed the procedure below, and keep receiving the same errors when attempting to generate the .senc file:

Procedure:

  1. Write word to 0x00, 0x0F00 (enter ROM mode)
    1. Ensure in ROM mode by switching to SBS and attempting to read (communication error, as expected)
  2. Select "Flash Memory > Read to File..." option from the menu bar under "Pro" tab.
  3. Fails with above message boxes.

Additional information:

FAS bit is green (operation status, cleared, in full access security mode)

Flash Update OK Voltage = 7500 mV (pack voltage is currently 16012 mV)

When this fails, I send command 0x08 to exit ROM mode.  When clicking "refresh" on the "SBS" tab, all the battery data is available and communicating properly.

Why am I not able to extract the .senc file?

  • Hi Jasonp
Can you send a screen shot of what bqEVSW is reporting. Check to see that the SS flag is green as well.
What firmware version is on your ev2300 or ev2400 which you are using?

    thanks
    Onyx
  • Hi Onyx,

See the attached bqEVSW screenshot as requested, the SS flag is indeed green.

I am using an EV2400, firmware version 0.05.

I used the updater (to version v0.18), and was able to extract the .senc file with no errors.

I thought all of the EV2400s I had were updated, thanks!
