TPS53355: Output capacitance calculation when using both ceramic and non-ceramic capacitors

Part Number: TPS53355

Hi,

In the datasheet of TPS53355, tow application circuits are mentioned: one for using ceramic and other for non-ceramic ( aluminum or tantalum).

Please let me know which one to be followed, when using both in single design.

Thanks & regards

Madhu

  • It is a little more complicated than that. It depends on your actual mix whether the electrolytic or the ceramic dominates the impedance profile. For a single capacitor type you get a single ESR zero. For mixed capacitors you get an additional pole / zero pair. TPS53355 uses DCAP control mode. It requires a certain amount of ripple at VFB for proper operation. You will need to calculate the ripple. If it is enough, you can use the electrolytic design approach, if not, you will have to add ripple injection like the all ceramic type.
