BQ25890: Difference between BQ25890 and BQ25895 ?

Part Number: BQ25890
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25895

Hello,

We plan to use BQ25895 charger IC but decided to switch to BQ25890 as it comes with over current protection on Boost voltage. We would like to know major differences between these two parts?

What is the OTG mode in BQ25890 mean?   Is there 5V on VBUS when boost mode is ON ?  if yes, can we disable it?

We don't need OTG feature for our design.

Thank you,

Mahesh

  • Hi Mahesh,

The difference between 895 (intended for power bank applications) and 890 is OTG boost operation.   With 895, the boost voltage appears at the PMID pin, without user adjustable current limit while the 890 OTG boost voltage is at VBUS pin with user adjustable current limit.

I am confused.  If you do not need OTG feature, why switch to 890 which has the over current protection on OTG boost voltage from VBUS pin?

  • Thanks for clarification. We have smart phone connected to boost output and would like to have over current protection on that path.
Looks like I need to use BQ25895 device with external over current protection.
  • To further clarify, the bq25895 has overcurrent protection at 3.1A, using the boost converter's cycle by cycle current limit feature.
