BQ24105: Is bq24105 usable for NiMH battery?

Part Number: BQ24105
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24115

Hi Team,

The datasheet page.1 shows the following.
>System-Controlled Version Can Be Used in NiMH and NiCd Applications
http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/bq24100.pdf

So, should I consider bq24105 (stand-alone) isn't usable for NiMH battery?
If the answer is yes, I would like to know why it isn't usable.

  • Hi Yaita-san,

The bq24105 could be used for NiMH or NiCd charging, depending on the termination method. The point of using the system-controlled versions is to control the charging current loop using the CMODE pin (like the bq24115).

If you want to use the TTC timer and /CE pin to control NiMh and NiCd charging, then I don't see an issue for using bq24105. It depends on the termination method that you want to do to charge these chemistries. PVD and dv/dt termination methods will have to be controlled externally.

    Regards,
