TPS28225: Propagation Delay

Hi team,

My customer is evaluating TPS28225 and close to MP. But they have a question that needs your help to answer.

Customer wants to know the minimum value of propagation delay. I know on datasheet Page6 it's listed as Typ. 14ns, but can you show customer what's the minimum value since it's not on datasheet? Thanks.

Hi Patrick,

Thanks for your question about TPS28225. Im an apps engineer from HPD and will help you out with this one.

There is a reason why there is no min/max listed for prop delay. In fact none of the time related parameters in the spec tables have a min/max value. Give me 24-48hrs, tet me get done to the bottom of this reason and update you asap.

Hi Patrick,

TPS28225 is a very fast driver in which minimizing layout parasitics is critical to achieve declared performance. Production tests add parasitics so any test based time related data requires correlation from a bench setup. Therefore we provide only typical values for these timing parameters verified by bench measurements.

Hi Jeffrey,

Thanks for the reply. However I'm a little confused by the datasheet: 'The overall dead time also includes the fixed portion to ensure that overlapping never exists';

I think what customer is looking for is the fixed portion time. Is it 14ns? Or Fix time + adaptive time = 14ns (typical)? Please help me understand. Thanks!

Hi Patrick,

I just wanted to clarify what you are looking for.

there is a 14ns deadtime as well as a 14ns prop delay.

the deadtime is to prevent shoot-through and occurs between LGATE and HGATE being high.

The prop delay is the difference in time from the input going high to the output going high.

The fixed time is the prop delay which is 14ns internal to the IC
The adaptive time is the deadtime which PGD (predictive gate drive) allows it to be 14ns. The 14ns deadtime is added to the prop delay during the deadtime.

Does this make sense?
