BQ40Z50-R2: Component Sustainability

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z50-R1, , BQ40Z50

Hello,

The reference BQ40Z50-R1 is not recommended for new design.

Do you have the date when the component will be in LTB ?

I will check to use BQ40Z50-R2 but do you have an idea when the component will pass to 'not recommended for new design" status ?

Thanks for your support.

Best Regards,

  • Hi Nicolas,

There are no plans to LTB (obsolete) the BQ40z50-R1 or to NRD the BQ40z50-R2.

The R2 is a firmware upgrade for R1. R1 devices may be upgraded to R2 by downloading the srec file www.ti.com/.../sluc628 and flashing to a bq40z50/-R1 device.

From the perspective of your host, R2 includes additional commands, but the existing commands from R1 are backwards compatible and the R2 device will work with the existing host program. However, the gg file (settings file) for R2 and not backware compatible to R1, so a new gg file will have to be created for R2.

For more information, the change list between R1 and R2 devices is available here: www.ti.com/.../slua833.pdf

Also please note, as of the date of this post, if latched protection is required, please use the R1 firmware. More information on latch protection with the R2 is available here: www.ti.com/.../sluubs8.pdf
