BQ24074: DPM Mode with Max Current set by external resistor ILIM

Part Number: BQ24074

Hello,

I want to check for a customer whether or not the input DPM feature on the BQ24074 would be available if the device is configured with EN2=1, and EN1=0 (max current set by external resistor at ILIM)?

The overview seems to suggest this is the case while the electrical characteristic table specific address this case only when EN2=0.

Thanks and best regards,

Jerry

  • Hello,
That is correct. The VIN-DPM feature only works in either USB100 or USB500 mode.

  • Hi Raheem,

Thanks for your response. Following up from the customer:

"Is there a USB communication chip that can be placed at the USB input to do D+/D- signaling with the input source, and command the EN1 and EN2 pins of the BQ24074 such that the BQ24074 is in USB500 mode when the input is a low-power USB and in ILIM mode when the input is a high-power (eg: USB3.0)? (I’m looking for a stand-alone solution)."

    Thanks and best,
    Jerry
  • Hello,

I'll suggest you use the USB500 mode as Vin-DPM which protects against the input voltage dropping too low from high loads is only available in either USB100 or USB500 mode. If you use a USB input with ILIM, you won't get the protection against this issue which could occur with cheap USB adapters.
