The best topology and device of 12V to 200-400V step up

Hi team,

We are considering step up from 12V battery up to 400V.

It is assumed that the output current is 10 mA and the voltage accuracy is about 5%.

The isolation is not needed.

What kind of topology is best for a system that does not require large power?

At that time, what kind of device can be used with the Q1 grade?

Two options: one is to use a flyback with high secondary to primary turns ratio to produce the high output voltage, The other is to use a boost in multi stage charge pump configurations. There is a refer design for the later option: www.ti.com/.../PMP20212

The reference design seems to have a small output current, but dou you have concerns about this system if we use at 10mA?
I think that it is necessary to increase the capacitor.
Does it improve area and efficiency compared to flyback?

Hi Tomoaki-san,

Yes you should increase both the inductor and the capacitors to support 10 mA. Comparison between the flyback and charge pump, it is about a transformer vs inductor plus a few more diodes and caps. Flyback can be a harder path because of the availability of transformer for your application. But it is hard to tell which solution is smaller or more efficient.
