UCC24612: UCC24612 in Full bridge application

Part Number: UCC24612

We have an application where we use a resonant converter with a full bridge output.
Output voltage would be 30V. I was wondering if the UCC24612 would be suitable for such an application, if we could provide a separate supply voltage below 28V (e.g. with a charge pump).

  • Hi, Dani,
    Thanks for the opportunity.
There should be all right to use the UCC24612 in this application. However, you have to use 4 pieces of them to make the whole system work.
Supplying the low side two SR driver would be relatively easy, you can directly power them up from the supply you created. You don't need a charge pump. Simply series a zener from output to drop a few volts would do the job.
Supplying the high side two SR drivers are going to be a little tricky since you need to bootstrap the low side voltage to the high side.
Let me know if this makes sense.
Or you can use the center tap transformer on the secondary side. Since the UCC24612 has 230V VD rating, it can support center tapped 30V output.
Other options you have is the voltage doubler structure. As shown in this reference design.

  • Hi Bing,

thanks for the answer. Bootstrapping the High Side ICs doesn't seem very tricky to me, since I have an additional auxilliary supply on the secondary side.

The bootstrap capacitor should be a bit bigger then usual I guess since the whole IC has to be supplied over the on-period, that's why I suggested a charge pump first.

    Any further recommendations?

    Best Regards

    Dani

  • Hi, Dani,
That's pretty much all you need to watch out. Since the SRs run in full bridge structure, there could not be shoot through. One SR on prevents the other SR turn on at the same time.
Let me know if I can further assist.
