UCD9090-Q1: Datasheet Clarification

Part Number: UCD9090-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCD9090

I'm trying to make sure I'm clear on this device's capabilities and I'm finding inconsistencies in the datasheet and web-descriptions.

The UCD9090-Q1 is titled as a "10-Rail Power-Supply Sequencer and Monitor With ACPI Support". But it seems to have 11 monitor inputs which would indicate the ability to monitor more than 10 voltages. Page 15 of the datasheet expands on the 11 monitor inputs and then in the following paragraph talks about the 12 voltages that the chip can monitor. Playing with the Fusion Designer software It seems like you can only configure the part to monitor 10 power rails which points back to only 10 monitors but there is still that's 11th monitor input....... o_O

So, which is it: 10, 11, or 12? If it's 10 what's the Mon11 input for?

Thanks.

  • The UCD9090 has 11 monitor inputs that can be used to track temperature or current signals in addition to sequencing/controlling to up to ten voltage rails.

example: It could be used to sequence six voltage rails and monitor two temperatures and three current signals for a total of 11 monitor inputs but it is limited to sequencing a maximum of 10 voltage rails.

Note:  You could use the 11th input to preform a simple monitor (no sequencing) of another voltage but you would need to set it up as if it were a temperatrue/current measurement and the reporting would be based on these settings (it would not be reported through the PMBus communication as a voltage rail). Faults and warnings would be based on the current/temperature settings you used for the 11th monitor.

  • Ok, that makes sense; You can monitor multiple things on a single rail the total of which could add to a maximum of 11.

Maybe this comes from being unfamiliar the Fusion Designer tool but it seems like you can only assign a monitor pin to a voltage rail. If true, this would limit you to a maximum of 10 monitors of a given type (voltage, temp, current).

How does one set up a "simple monitor"?
