LP8860-Q1: Layout issue about inductos placement

Part Number: LP8860-Q1

Hello team,

Could you help clarify what does it mean in D/S layout guidelines:

" Inductors must be placed so that the current flows in the same direction as in the current loops. Rotating the inductor 180° changes current direction"?

As far as I know, power inductors don't have polarity.

Thanks.

Dongbao

  • Hi Dongbao,

The statement in question simply means that the inductor should be placed so that the current flows through the inductor without changing direction. Foe example, if the current is flowing from left to right at the point where the inductor is inserted, place the inductor so that the current flows into the left terminal and out of the right terminal. Since, as you mentioned there is no polarity on the inductor, there is no schematic connection restriction. Just ensure proper placement rotation in layout.

    I hope this is clear.

    Regards,
