BQ76PL455A-Q1: Using V5VAO for Waking up the IC

Part Number: BQ76PL455A-Q1

Hi David,

I am using bq76pl455a-q1 for a battery management project.

I am using a single IC configuration and want to power up the microcontroller using outputs from the BMS.

But to turn ON the NPN transistor we need to wake up the IC through wakeup signal.

Can we use V5VAO only to set the Wakeup signal high?

Waiting for your Reply.

  • Hi Ritul,

You should not load the V5VAO pin externally. This will likely cause the part to malfunction. If you are using the pl455 to power external devices, it should come from VP. Just keep in mind thermal limitations, etc.

You will need a DC-DC to power the MCU/VIO externally. The pl455 is not capable of doing this (VP is only on when the part is woken up -> the part needs to be woken up from MCU -> MCU won't be on because VP is not on). The only way is with an external DC-DC.
  • ok sir. thank you.

  • Hello  David,

Can we use V5VAO only to power up Wakeup signal?

We will then use VP to power up rest of the circuit.

  • Hi  Ritul,

You  should not  use V5VAO to power any other circuitry. The exception to this is pulling COMML+ to this rail when used as a base device, because V5VAO already supplies this circuitry. The internal LDO was not  designed to handle external loads and you will likely see issues if you try to  use it that way.

Wakeup needs to be tied to the  VIO supply, along  with NFAULT and  the  UART pins.
