LM3401: About layout infomation

Part Number: LM3401

Hi

My Customer has question.

Customers want clear numbers about board impedance when creating layouts
For example, the wiring resistance between Cin - Q1 (Sauce) is within 〇mΩ 、〇nH.
I understand that it is difficult to answer this question.
If the answer is difficult, you can answer "Can not respond" so can not you comment? Also, if you can comment on points to consider instead, it is very helpful.

I will close this subject with that answer.
Please cooperate.

  • Hello,

It would be very difficult to quantify numbers for mohms and nHs.

But if you use good layout practices for buck regulators you should be good. Cin, Q1, and D1 should all be tied closely together with as short of traces as possible. Also the grounds of Cin, D1, and the LM3401 should be tied as close together as possible. Ideally you would use a bottom layer ground plane and place some vias next to those ground points to create a good ground return path for the discontinuous switching currents. There are a lot of buck regulator datasheets and other layout guidelines articles you can also refer to if you like, but those are the basics for a buck regulator.

  • Hi Clint

    Thank you for replay!
I also agree with your opinion. However, Distributor's words are not convincing.
Thanks to you, I can close it. I appreciate it.
