LM2594: Two issues on design a reverse regulator with LM2594

Part Number: LM2594

One of customer has some problems on the schematic:

1. What is the specific role of D1 in the figure,  can we remove it, and it will  have a fatal effect on IC?

2. Can the delayed start circuit not be needed? Is it ok to short PIN5 and PIN6 ?

  • The diode is not absolutely required.  It tends to help with transient response.

You may need to experiment wit the values of the output capacitors to get the load transient response you desire.

The slow start circuit helps to reduce the inrush current at start-up.  It may not be needed in every case.
