TPS3606-33: battery freshness seal : activation and de-activation

Part Number: TPS3606-33

We are using TPS3606 Battery Backup and Supervisory IC in one of our product SICAM FCM.

The query is regarding the battery freshness mode activation and de-activation.

During run operation we are putting battery into Freshness mode with the description as stated in the datasheet (Pg# 5 of 18).

How to come out of the battery freshness mode without doing the power on/off??

Best Regards

Gautam Jotkar

  • Gautam,

The device comes out of the battery freshness mode when VDD is applied. This is what you want I think. This means that when the VDD is applied and greater than V_BAT or V_SWN, the device uses VDD for power instead of the battery that is connected. Then if the voltage at VDD falls, the device automatically switches over to the battery at V_BAT. Confirm if this is the operation you want or let me know if I did not answer your question. Thanks!

  • Hello Michael

    I'll frame my question again....

The steps to put in battery freshness seal are as below:

    1. Connect VBAT(VBAT> VBAT(min))
    2. Ground PFO
    3. Connect PFI to VDDor PFI > V(PFI)
    4. Connect VDD
    to power supply (VDD> VIT)
    5. Ground MR
    6. Power down VDD
    7. The freshness seal mode is entered and pins PFO and MR can be disconnected.

If we execute Steps#1 to Step#6, is there a way to enter Battery mode when VDD is powered down. Or is it that it will always enter in Battery freshness seal?

  • Gautam,

By following steps 1 to 6 you enable battery freshness seal meaning the battery does not leak to keep it fresh.

As soon as Vdd comes up, the battery seal freshness is disabled. You can not disable the battery freshness seal (switch over to battery) unless Vdd comes up OR unless you use the MSWITCH input to manually switch over to battery mode. Those are the only 2 options for entering battery mode.
