TPS65218: Propagation Delay time at OCP

Part Number: TPS65218

Hi, team.

Please tell me the propagation delay time until a protection circuit works after an over-current is detected.

Best Regards,

  • Hirotsugu,

I am going to have to look into this on one of our EVMs. I will get back to you shortly.

    Thanks,
    Nick
  • Hirotsugu,

I looked into this and it seems that after an over-current is detected the TPS65218 will limit the output current (which should only take a microseconds) but doesn't turn off the outputs. This makes it hard to determine a propagation delay because what will happen is the output voltage will decrease as the load tries to pull more current, until the power good threshold is crossed, at which point the PMIC will shut down.

The load switches will also limit the current, but these do send a signal to the digital logic in order to generate an interrupt. According to the datasheet it takes 15ms from the time of over current detection to generate this interrupt.

Please let me know if this answers your question.

    Thank you,
    Nick
  • Nick-san,
My question is the delay time until FET is turned off after a DCDC converter detects an over-current.
It's good by a reference value, not the guarantee value, so please tell me.

    Best Regards,
  • Hirotsugu,

The propagation delay from when the over-current is detected to the time the high-side FET is turned off should only be ~100ns.

    Thank you,
    Nick
