LMZ23610: LMZ23610

Part Number: LMZ23610

LMZ module seems to work fine with high output current capability.

However, I noticed that this module rated for up to 6VDC output is capable, via the resistor divider network, of much greater output voltages.

Is this is typical for this device? Is the device not internally limited to 6V output?

Regards,

  • I did not see anything in the documentation that would suggest output voltages higher than 6V is possible.  Webench will not allow it either.  That said, there is nothing obvious that is limiting the output to 6 V that I can see.

  • Thanks for the reply....

  • Hi Randall,

As John pointed out, the datasheet only specs the LMZ23610 for applications up to 6V. Since the inductor is integrated into the power module, the system has been tested to be stable under the condition that Vout does not exceed 6V. It may be the case that if the output voltage is increased pass the 6V limit, the output voltage might experience oscillation and become unstable.

Can you let me understand what your application is? Is there a reason why you picked the LMZ23610?

  • Hi Jimmy,
I tested my part by changing the set point resistance between two limits to set the voltage out. System works well. I was just surprised to see that the upper limit can be much greater than the rated 6V output. (without oscillation)
My concern is for a production assembly that uses this component; if the fixed value set point resistor happens to be a wrong value (accidentally) that the >6V output voltage could damage other components when the assembly is powered up the first time.
We do have to account for these what if's in an assembly environment.

    regards,
    Randy
  • Hi Randall,

The device does not have an internal circuitry that limits the output voltage to 6V max. As you've stated, please take this into account during assembly and manufacturing.
