Sir I want to do passive cell balancing for  16 LI - ION cell per cell voltage 3.2voltage , 72 AH, These cell are in series.

For passive cell balancing I want to use TI bq76PL455A-Q1 ic and Following bq76PL455A-Q1 datasheet . My doubt is whethere I need any controller with bq76PL455A-Q1 ic or bq76PL455A-Q1 is sufficient for passive cell balancing . I seen that bq76PL455A-Q1 does monitoring and balancing itself  but in the datasheet there is one microcontroller with bq76PL455A-Q1 So I am getting that what is the use of additional controller .

Name of that microcontroller is - Texas Instruments µC C2000å TMS570å which is connected with  bq76PL455A-Q1 .

    Hi Tarun,

    The bq76pl455A has the required circuitry for these functions integrated into the IC. However, an MCU is needed to control the pl455A with writes to the register.

    Hi Devid Sir,

    As you said that for passive cell balancing it has required circuitry  integrated into the IC. Then What is role of  MCU , Because for configuration TI is providing one GUI and I Think that GUI can configured  BQ76PL455-Q1 .

    and If I use MCU  than which software for scripting that MCU and which programmer should I used.

    Hi Tarun,

    Think of it like this - the bq76pl455A is like a car, with all of the needed components to drive. The car still requires inputs to drive though (a person). The MCU provides these needed inputs since cars can't drive by themselves (yet)

    I got it but one more query is you suggested two MCU -
    1. TMS570
    2. C2000

    then for passive cell balancing -
    1. How to programme above MCU (which software I should use ) ?
    2. After writing the programme How I upload my programme inside above MCU ( Which programmer I should use )?
    3. Which pin of MCU is used for upload the programme?

What is the outer peripheral circuit of bq76pl455A . Will you please send me your Circuit Design with launchpad connection with bq76pl455A ?
