TPS53014: Could you tell me about TPS53014(SN1206042)? Part.02

Part Number: TPS53014

Hi, team.

I did the following post before.

https://e2e.ti.com/support/power_management/non-isolated_dcdc/f/196/t/634281

My customers are considering using custom-made SN1206048(TPS53014's without OVP).

The customer consider in various ways to fix external FET(Q1, Q2) and peripheral damping resistance (R3).

However, I can not judge the DRVH / L voltage (sum of VREG 5 and built-in diode Vf) or worst case of DRVH / L current, because it is not listed in the data sheet.

※In particular, I would like to know the most about how much power consumption(of the damping resistance)should be estimated from the flowing current.

I would like a datasheet describing about MIN/MAX and temperature range, but I think it will take time to modify it, so please tell me how to estimate the power.

<Question>

①When selecting external damping resistance, how many power should I choose?

②Please also indicate the reason for selection.

Could you help me?

Best regards,

Pokkun

  • R3 sets the over current level threshold. The resistor values are in the kohm range so they do not dissipate much power. Lets take a quick example, say 12 V in to 3.3 V output. The low drive voltage is approximately 5.1 V and teh dury cycle is 3.3 / 12 = 0.275. Using a middle value ofR3 of 27 kohm, the average power will be ((VREG5^2) / R3) * D = ((5.1^2) / 27000) * 0.275 = 0.265 mW. So basically a 1/10 W resistor is more than adequate.
