bq Evaluation Software

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQEVSW, BQ20Z80, BQMTESTER, BQ3050

Hello,

I cannot successfully run bq Evaluation Software on one of my machines. It's an up-to-date ThinkPad T400 running Win XP Pro.

When I launch beEVSW, I get the following message in a pop-up window:

"Failed to load control 'TIFlexGrid' from 'TIFlexGrid.ocx. Your version of TIFlexGrid.ocx may be outdated. Make sure you are using the version of the control that was provided with your application."

The program will open with nothing in the main area of the SBS screens. Similar messages will pop up for the Dataflash and bqEASY tabs. For Dataflash, it complains about loading SSTab from TABCTL32.ocx; for bqEASY, is complains about loading MsFlexGrid from MSFXGRD.OCX. The Pro and Calibrate tabs seem to load fine.

I've tried a few things to make it work, but none alter the above behavoir:

- Many re-installs both with the latest version of bqEVSW (0.9.65) and older version(s) (down to 0.9.50)

- Copying TIFlexGrid.ocx from a machine that works into this machine's c:\WINDOWS\TI folder

- Installing on different Windows users accounts (both admin & user)

Any help? I'm out of ideas. I'm also using a bq20z80, but this appears to be a problem with the program rather than chip-specific.

Thanks.

  • Have you previously installed any other TI software or drivers on your PC?

I know of one case where the EV2300 drivers had problems on a user's PC because of some other TI application which had installed drivers with the same name.  He had to uninstall the previous ones and reinstall the gas gauge EVSW + drivers.

Did you un-install EVSW each time before re-installing?

  • Try unregister the ocx first:

Bring up the command prompt, type:

    > Regsvr32 /u TIFlexGrid.ocx

Then change directory to where the new TIFlexGrid.ocx resides, type:

    > Regsvr32 TIFlexGrid.ocx

  • Hello,

Yes, I uninstalled EVSW before each install attempt. I uninstalled my other TI software yesterday before trying again (I think it was just bqMTester), but did still have the EV2300 drivers installed.

    So today, I tried:

    - uninstalling EV2300 drivers and EVSW & delete c:\windows\ti folder

    - no other TI software is installed at this point

    - reboot

    - reinstall EV2300 drivers, then EVSW

    - problem still persists on boot-up (EV2300 drivers seem to work, however)

    - I then tried the other suggestion on the thread to unregister/re-register the osx

    - problem still persists

    - one last reboot

    - problem still persists

  • Hello,

Should I do this at any particular point? E.e., uninstall EVSW, run your commands above, and then reinstall EVSW? I just tried it now after a fresh install and it didn't seem to work.

Here's my steps, copied from other thread:

    - uninstalling EV2300 drivers and EVSW & delete c:\windows\ti folder

    - no other TI software is installed at this point

    - reboot

    - reinstall EV2300 drivers, then EVSW

    - problem still persists on boot-up (EV2300 drivers seem to work, however)

    - I then tried the suggestion to unregister/re-register the osx

    - problem still persists

    - one last reboot

    - problem still persists

  • I'm really sorry for all the trouble you are having.

Actually, you don't need to install EV2300 drivers first and separately from the EVSW.  The EVSW installer will also install the drivers.  I don't know if this is related to your problem or not, but it might help speed up your debug process.

Which EVSW installer are you using and where did you get it from?  Be sure you have the latest from the product folder on ti.com.

Some folks in our team have heard of this problem and believe it was related to a bad EVSW installer which was never released on the website.  Did you perchance get this EVSW directly from TI somehow?

  • Hello,

I got the latest installer from the TI site a couple days ago. It was the bqEV-Easy SW from this page:

    http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/bq20z80evm-001.html#Support Software

However, there is a little more history that may be of interest. I do think I had a previous install directly from TI which corresponded to when I first noticed problems. I attended the battery deep dive seminar at TI Dallas last fall and in our lab I did install some software which was provided in the course, though I'm not sure now if it was EV2300 drivers, EVSW or maybe bqMTester. My setup wasn't working in the lab so I used a partner's machine, and I don't think I got it working after returning.

I gave up after a little effort back then, as I had other machines to use. Now I'm down one machine so I thought I'd revisit this one. Soooo, do you think there's something lingering from that previous install? If so, any ideas how to remove it? If the uninstaller doesn't grab it, I'm not sure where to look.

  • One option did the trick. I reinstalled windows, and it now works. So this case can be closed.

  • We are having the exact same issue on one of our computers running XP professional 32-bit.  It is the same TIFlexGrid.ocx message.  None of the possible solutions above have worked for us yet.  Multiple uninstalls and reinstalls, have deleted the c:/windows/ti folder and reinstalled the EVSW with no luck.  It would be a very big hassle if we have to reinstall windows, so we prefer not to do that.  Do you guys know if there is another method of fixing this issue?

We are using the TI EVSW that came on a CD with one of the bq20z75 evaluation modules that we ordered a while back.  This software has been working fine on every other machine we've used it on with both windows xp 32bit and windows 7 64bit machines.  It is version: 00.09.41

  • I am also having this problem.  I do not plan to reinstall Windows to fix.   I have attempted to install on three machines two have problems (both Windows XP) and another is Windows 7.

  • Wayne, what installer for what gauge are you trying?  Are you installing as an admin?  Even on Win7 if you are logged in to an account with admin privileges, you still should right-click and select Run as administrator.

What exact error are you getting?

  • We are trying to use the bq3050.  Here is the error.  I will try uninstall and install as admin but based on the above I don't hold out hope.

  • Hmm, seems my screen shot did not post.  I am getting the TIFlexGrid.ocx might be outdated error.

  • Hello alan56560,

It's long time past. I view all the messages. Then find yours. I try to access the link you pasted, in order to download the Bq EVSW(bq20z80). But the accessed page has no source. So could you help me and send it to me if you still have the installation at your local computer. Really appreciate for your help~!
