BQ24032A: Capacitor on ISET1 pin

Section 11.2.2 of the BQ2403x datasheet mentions connecting a 0.22 µF capacitor between BAT and ISET1 "to improve operation at low charge currents," although none is shown in the accompanying schematic (figure 7). Similarly, SLUU207A, the users guide for the evaluation manual, says this capacitor "may be needed for programming charging currents less than 0.3A." But there is no explanation of what the real reason is for this capacitor - what does "improve operation" mean? What might happen if this capacitor is not in place?
