BQ29200: battery application

Part Number: BQ29200

Hi.

I have a 2 cell lithium  battery application.

I charge with MCP73842-8.4  from  12V (AC ADAPTER) , the batteries go to dc-dc  converter.

I woul like to use BQ29200.

The question are ?

Can i  have the Cell balancing always enabled, during the charge and during the discharge of the battery  ?

How can i know if the balance is ok ? Maybe i have to measure the voltage of the battery ?

Do you think the schematic is correct ?

Thanks in advance

Mario.

  • Hi Mario,

The bq29200 can perform automatic voltage-based cell imbalance correction by modifying the loading of each cell. Balance can start when the cell voltages differ by > 30 mV nominally and stops when the difference between the cells is 0 mV nominally.

You can confirm the voltage balance of the cells by using a multimeter or oscilloscope on your bench.

A host MCU may disable/enable cell balancing through use of the CB_EN pin.

The System Example Schematic in section 9.3.1 of the bq29200 datasheet is correct. Values may differ based on application.
