Hi, I would like to use LM317LIDR with four output (package SOIC). My question is the following: can I control four different ICs by using four different potentiometers?

Hi Mario,

First I want to make sure that it is understood that the four output pins on that package are all internally connected. They are not independent outputs. So if you want to have four different output voltages, then you would need four of these devices and each device would need its own resistor divider.

Now I understand the point. Let me ask you this. What is the different between the package with four output pins and the one with a single output pin?

Hi Mario,

There is no difference from a performance stand point, other than a very slight reduction in the Rds(on) from input to output and therefore a very slight reduction in the dropout. I believe the extra pins we're bonded out that way to give customers the most amount of flexibility when laying out the PCB.

So, I can only control one output voltage by using LM317. It does not matter if it has either one or four output.
