BQ40Z50-R1: Steps after learning cycle - Creating Golden File

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R1

Hello,

I have successfully finished the learning cycle by SLUA777.

Max Error is 1 and Update Status is 06.

I've found a presentation from TI: Battery Management Solutions - The Final Steps to Production by Thomas Cosby; October 23, 2014

where following steps are described for the Golden File:

1. Run the Optimization Cycle to update Qmax and the Ra-table

2. Go to the Data Flash window and press the Read All button

3. Export the gg.csv file

4. Edit the gg.csv file using a text editor. e.g. Notepad. Do not use Excel.

5. Set the Update Status to 02 and set the Cycle Count to 0.

6. Load the default .srec file into the device.

7. Load the ChemID into the device.

8. Load your modified gg.csv file into the device and press the Write All button

9. Save the golden .srec file.

My question is regarding step 5:

Why is it needed to change Update Status from 06 to 02. This means Impedance Track gauging and lifetime updating is disabled (see attached screenshot)?

How to set Update Status for the Goldenfile if Impedance Track is required?

  • Hi pebl97,

These are the instructions for creating a golden file for production.

Setting the Update Status to 02 and Cycle Count to 0 is a step in creating the golden file used to flash all your devices in production.

This is to ensure the device does not start logging/calculating lifetime/counting cycles during production until after the IT Enable command is set and the device sealed, the final steps in production.

After the pack is programmed with the golden file and the pack connected, to set update status (IT Enable), please send the update status to 0x06 command to the device prior to sealing the device.

If the above resolves your issue, please click on the "This Resolved my Issue" button so the response may help others with a similar question.

  • Hi Bryan,

    thanks for your support.

I have done the steps to create the golden file, but after Step 8 max Error is 101%

It look's like I'm not the only one with this problem:

  • Hi Pebl67,

Could you please give me some more detail as to your system configuration?

A failure at this stage is often indicative of a poor chemID match. Let's step back a few steps and analyze the entire process:

    What is your chemID?
    How was your chemID selected?

Please attach the logs from your learning cycle and the gg.csv settings of your gauge.

    Sincerely,
    Bryan Kahler
