BQ40Z50-R2: In BQ40Z50-R2, What happens when NR=1 and PRES=0?

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R2

Hi all,

We are using BQ40Z50-R2 for one of our application. In our system We are making the NR bit to high for non-removable (settings-->DA configuration:NR=1). And as per our system configuration The PRES pin of the BQ40z50-R2 is becoming low. The moment PRES pin becomes low, the bit OperationStatus()[EMSHUT]  becoming high and system is going to shutdown.

The data sheet mentioned "If the [NR] bit is set, the PRES input is ignored and can be left floating"

my question is When NR=1 , and PRES pin connected to ground (=0) what is the behavior? Please let us weather we can connect it to Ground when NR=1?

Thank you for your valuable time,

Regards

Uday kumar

  • Hi Uday,

If [NR] = 1 and DA Configuration[EMSHUT] = 1, a high to low transition on the SHUTDN pin (PRES pin when NR = 1) with sufficient debounce delay will cause the gauge to turn off the CHG and DSG FETs immediately.

To disable this functionality, please either float the PRES pin, or set DA Configuration[EMSHUT] = 0.

For more information, please refer to section 5.6.1 of the TRM found here: www.ti.com/.../sluubk0a.pdf
