BQ3060: The RM value of BQ3060 is fixed as the FCC value issue

Part Number: BQ3060
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ29412, , BQ24172, GPCCEDV

Hi,

Now we designed a 3S Li-PO products using BQ24172 + BQ3060 + BQ29412, there is BQ3060 batch problem that the remaining power (RM register) will be locked with full charge flag in the FCC register, and this value will not changes over the actual battery voltage. The phenomenon can’t recover on its own in the normal shutdown, boot work and not fully charged operations.

The results of accessing the BQ3060 register via EV2300 are the same as that by using main board. The RM register values lock with the FCC value. The flag bits of status register is the same as the BQ3060 in normal operation, and there are no protection and error flags appearing. Only after completing a full charge operation can the gage return to normal, and the RM value varies with the actual battery voltage.

This batch of products has experienced the following operations:

  1. Complete three times fully charge and discharge to finish the battery capacity study in early September to mid-September (The battery charge cycle has a record).
  2. 4 times test were made in the next  two months intermittently (The single boot time is shorter).

The product is in a long time shutdown and a short time to operation, during which some of the machines are turned off during the process and carry out the charging operation (It may not be a fully charging operation).

More than 50% products have been found with these issues in recent tests.

Hope you can help me. Thank you very much!
