BQ40Z60: Simultaneous use of Pack_Present- and PreCharge Function.

Part Number: BQ40Z60
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ20Z70, BQ40Z50-R1

My application uses 4 series 5000 mAH LiPo cells. The circuit configuration is based on the BQ40Z60EVM except uses no fuse or PreCharge  FET support. I have conflicting information. When viewing a training video, the possibility exists of the charger to provide a low current precharge without the added FET and resistor. In an e2e post, I read that the GPIO pin conflict was not reconcilable and that both functions were not possible in a single implementation. If possible, the instrument would benefit greatly if both functions were implemented.

Battery packs contain the BQ40Z60 and supporting components. It is desirable that new packs be stored for extended periods without deterioation. The instrumentation is to be qualified as intrinsically safe per IEC60079-11. To achieve spark safety, the entire battery pack is encapsulated, including the BQ40Z60 circuitry. For this reason, it would be good to recover an overly discharged battery, if possible. The instrument will be used to accumulate test data on oil wells in remote locations such as the North Slope in AK and off shore platforms.

I am not a battery expert, but more of a system level engineer. The BQ40Z60TRM is rather confusing as does not give you any sequence of events to make a design ready for production. I am sure that there must be another document makes implementation easier. A few years back, i used the BQ20Z70 with the AFE and found BQEASY walked me through the sequence data entry, calibration, and learning cycles.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.
