TPS65311-Q1: load current value and dissipation issues

Part Number: TPS65311-Q1

Hi engineers,

I'm designing PMIC TPS65311-Q1 I'm setting BUCK 1-3.3V, buck 2:1V0 and Buck3 as 1V8, boost to 5V0.

Now I'm looking for output current that each regulator can support, min. , max and nominal value, which would help me in my design. And I observe Buck 1 output to be 3.3V and 2.3A max, but the page 9-10 in the datasheet  gives  the gate driver peak current is 0.6A, so I confused. Could you give some direction?

Additionally, I am trying to calculate power loss for PMIC(TPS65311-Q1), I cannot find the parameters needed to calculate switching and conduction loss, I would require internal mosfet parameters like, high side and low side Rdson , also their switching time. If I could get MOSFET charge that'll would be helpful but it is not in top of my list.

The above information is needed for BUCK1, BUCK2 and BUCK3 as well as BOOST,

Your help will be greatly appreciated if you provide the information at earliest.

Best Regards&good luck

Jenny

  • HI Jenny,

BUCK1 output current is set externally using the current sense shunt resistor. 0.6A current mentioned in the datasheet is the gate drive current for driving external MOSFET's and it is not the regulator output current.

For the BUCK2/3, Boost regulator power losses, please refer to the efficiency plots provided in the datasheet. BUCK1 is controller and hence power losses are mostly on the external power FET and internal power losses can be neglected for BUCK1.

Also, RDSon of internal opwer FET's are also provided in the datasheet for BUCK2/3 and Boost.

could you please let me know the details of this project like: customer and application?

    Regards,

    Murthy
