LP5524: Output structure of LED driver

Part Number: LP5524
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54201, LP5569, LP5521, LP5562

This will probably sound like a dumb question, but is the output a DC current or PWM'd? I see a constant current symbol in the datasheet, but I assume this just for the duration of the duty cycle being high. I would love to find a part that converts my PWM into a DC voltage and then drive the LED at a fixed DC current. I don't want my LED flickering at any rate.

  • Hi Paul,
Please try the device wth dot correction, may I konw you LED channel, current per channel, then I can recommend the device for your application.
LP5569 has the dot correction with the smaller current, TPS54201 can covert PWM to analog dimming, but it is high current switching mode device.
Any more question please let me know, thanks!

  • I have two channels, 20mA max. Can you explain "dot correction", I have not heard that term before. I'm looking for something like the MAX1916, but I'd rather use TI parts if possible. I don't want any devices with "32 steps of brightness" (nonlinear, usually). I need fairly fine control, either with PWM control, SPI/I2C, or voltage.
  • Hi Paul,
Could you try LP5562 or LP5521, they all can meet your requirement, thanks!
