BQ27426: Fuel gauge SOC performance issue at low temperature

Part Number: BQ27426
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: GPCRB

Hi all,

I I'm using the BQ27426 in our system . Till now we didn't have any issue with the SOC. For the past 4 weeks some users started to work with our system in a low temperature environment (~4C).And they complained that our system was suddenly shut down.

We did a few tests of our system and found that the rate of voltage drop in the battery is faster at low temperatures. What we did, we recorded the SOC and voltage data from the  BQ27426 at room temperature and low temperature systems (graphs attached). It is important to note that we give a shutdown order to our system when the SOC reaches a value of 10%.From what we understood that the BQ27426  is supposed to do temperature compensation to SOC and study the battery behavior automatically, is that correct? What can we do to solve the problem that the SOC does not indicate the actual battery status?

  • hi David,
You will need to optimize your battery pack for low temperature using our online tool gpcrb. The instructions are straight forward and the steps are easy to carry out.

Also, always ensure to send a gg and log files for analysis if you run into issues in the future.

    thanks
    Onyx
