BQ24133: Operation During Undertemperature Condition

Part Number: BQ24133

Hi,

I'm asking this question on behalf of another engineer who has a problem with a BQ24133 battery charger IC and its temperature sensing. When the TS input exceeds the low temperature limit (ie higher than approx 2.5V with 3.3V reference) the IC continues to charge the battery. However if I remove the battery it will not start to charge the battery until the TS pin goes below the threshold. Once charging, the IC will not stop the charge until I take the TS pin >3.0V.

Do you have any idea what might be going on?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Gustaf

  • Gustaf,

Where is the GND connected? Either the GND reference for the IC is bad (or noisy), or the DMM measurement GND connection is bad.

Can you provide a scope shot of the TS pin voltage and VREF pin voltage closest to the IC? Also use the GND point closest to the IC. There could also be other factors, a scope shot may provide better insight.

    Regards,
    Steven
