BQ27441EVM-G1A: bqStudio and EV2400 disconnect during Learning Cycle

Part Number: BQ27441EVM-G1A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, , EV2400

Hi,

I'm trying to complete a BQ27441EVM-G1A learning cycle with a Windows 7-32 computer and the EV2400. I use bqStudio 1.3.54.1

At least four times now, the EV2400 is unable to communicate properly with bqStudio and/or the BQ24771. At present I get the Windows test message "USB Device Not Recognized. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned...."

USB un-plug and re-plug gives me the bqStudio message "Learning Cycle in Progress A Learning Cycle is currently in progress. Do you really wish to exit ?" When I click cancel, I get a red warning message at the bottom of bqStudio which says "Not able to find a free communications adapter".

Please let me know how to proceed in order to complete a learning cycle.

Ideally, I'd like to extend the relax periods to last over night in order to watch the emptying and charging of the battery during +- normal working hours.

Best regards,

Børge

  • Hi Borge,
Pls update bqstudio to a more recent version from ti.com. Hopefully this helps your situation.
    thanks

  • Hi,

With the help of numerous uninstalls and reboots I now have bqStudio 1.3.80 up and running on my Win7-32 computer.

26 minutes into the last learning cycle, Windows tells me "USB Device Not Recognized..." and bqStudio says "Nota ble to find a free communications adapter."

In your experience, what causes these errors to occur? Is there something wrong with the EV2400?

    Best,

    Børge

  • A few more details:

My computer finds the EVM2400 under HID devices. It goes away in Device Manager when unplugged. So that part seems OK.

However, poor functionality seems to correlate with a low state of charge in the battery under test. Should I provide the EVM2400 with external 5VDC?

Without external 5VDC, is the EVM2400 in any way powered by the battery under test?

I have connected the BQ24771EVM-G1A to Port 2, I2C. The setup works most of the time, but fails at critical stages in the learning cycle. This means I'm unable to generate the Golden File for the product.

    Best regards,
    Børge
  • hi Borge
What firmware version is running on your ev2400? pls update to the v0.18. What voltage is the battery being discharged to? What do you have your terminate voltage set to? Also, what do you have your hibernate V set to?

    thanks
    Onyx
  • Hi Onyx,

New firmware 0.18 was installed in the EV2400. After 3 restarts, bqStudio now finds the BQ24771G1A connected to EV2400 via I2C.

However, bqStudio no longer has the Learning Cycle button enabled. Please see attachments of bqStudio before and after the firmware update.

We have lost a lot of valuable time to bqStudio and its instabilities. Any attempt to delay a part of the learning cycle has resulted in a "No acknowledge from device". As the learning cycle is estimated to last > 20h, this level of performance is something we can hardly use as a critical tool.

Please give me your best and qualified feedback on how:

    - bqStudio can perform a full learning cycle with EV2400 and BQ24771EVM-G1A

    - Learning cycle can be paused outside of office hours without having to restart the learning cycle.

Based on our current experience with bqStudio and TI gas gauges, we will have to evaluate other suppliers for future projects and revisions.

    Best regards,

    Børge

Before firmware update, bqStudio doesn't respond

After firmware update: bqStudio doesn't have gas gauge available
