UCC27714: Isolation

Part Number: UCC27714
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC21520,

Hello sir

I am using this IC to drive my mosfets in a full bridge topology of EV charger. I want to know that two pins COM and VSS/ ground are given, is COM pin related to output isolation? What is the use of putting a resistance in series with COM and ground ?

I want isolation in the circuit. If you can suggest some other IC in the range of 600V , 4A+ output , if this particular IC is not isolated will be very helpful.

Thank you in advance.

  • Hello Tanvi,

I am an applications engineer supporting high power gate drivers. I recommend taking a look at UCC21520, a two-channel isolated gate driver with 4A source and 6A sink current, 1500VDC working voltage between output channels, and 5.7kVrms reinforced isolation between inputs and outputs. Although UCC27714 can support up to 600VDC between HS pin and COM, it is not isolated.

Regarding UCC27714 with separate COM and GND, this is not for isolation. COM is separated from GND because COM of low-side driver can have a lot of noise from high switching currents. A resistance or ferrite bead between COM and GND can help to prevent switching noise from coupling into the inputs through the input-side ground.

    Regards,
