BQ27750EVM-837: Battery Management Studio - EV2300 driver installation

Part Number: BQ27750EVM-837
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, EV2400

Hi Guys

I am trying to get theBGQ27750EVM running with the EV2300.

I have installed the Battery Management Studio following the getting started guide.

[Hindsight :

Step 2 did not happen:

'If the Communications Interface Adapter was not previously installed, after the bqStudio installation,
a TI USB DRIVER INSTALLER pops up. Click Yes for the agreement message and follow its instructions.
Two drivers are associated with the EV2300 and an additional file may be required for the EV2400.
Follow the instructions to install both. Do not reboot the computer, even if asked to do so.'

Step 3 neither :

Plug the communications interface adapter into a USB port using the USB cable. The Windows system
may show a prompt that new hardware has been found. When asked, "Can Windows connect to Windows Update
to search for software?", select "No, not this time", and click Next. In the next dialog window, it indicates
"This wizard helps you install software for: TI USB Firmware Updater". Select "Install the software automatically
(Recommended)" and click Next. It is common for the next screen to be the Confirm File Replace screen. Click No
to continue. If this screen does not appear, then go to the next step. After Windows indicates that the installation
was finished, a similar dialog window pops up to install the second driver. Proceed with the same installation preference
as the first one. The second driver is TI USB bq80xx Driver.

]

It did not pick up my device upon start.

I tried to manually select it from the list of supported boards, it wasnt there.

I found the '1750_0_04-bq27750.bqz' file here, in a support request. Tried that, nothing.

I then saw some unknown devices in the windows device manager.

I then figured that perhaps there are drivers missing from the installation (Step 2/3 did not happen, but alas I dont always worry about that, as I am used to SW/docs not being in Sync).

I manually downloaded the drivers and installed them from "https://e2e.ti.com/support/power_management/battery_management/f/180/t/128220"

Step 2 and 3 did not happen. However, the BQStudio worked...I went home.

This morning I came back, and it was no longer working / communicating. Nothing I do can make BQStudio find my connected device. REboot, reinstall etc.

Please help!

Many thanks,

Eugene

  • Now I get it that the BQSTudio software crashes.
    Driver issues?
What I see when I plug the EV2300 device into the PC, in device manager, is

    HUMAN Interface Devices
    - HID-compliant vendor defined device
    - USB Input device

So a composite USB device. Both with VID=0451 and PID=0036.

Is there any way to update these manually by pointing to a folder on disk? I am running Win10.
  • Hi Eugene,
What version of bqstudio do you have installed? Did you install it as an administrator? can you try unistalling and then reinstalling bqstudio as an administrator? When you start the device, did you apply a charge voltage to the pack+ pin of the EVM to wake it up from shut down mode?

    thanks

  • Hi Onyx

Seasons greetings and a properous 2018 to you Sir.

Many thanks for your reply, and apologies for my delay.

I seem to have a Windows issue on my PC that will require a full reinstall. Oft when I reboot my PC most applications crash upon startup (i.e. Excel, Notepad, so not only bqStudio/Atmel Studio/Visual Studio etc)...which don't necessarily happen the next time I boot.

So for now, this is no longer an issue. I assumed it was, as this behaviour started round about the same time!

I am, however, having other issues. I guess I should read support and then maybe open a new support request.

    Many thanks,
    Eugene
  • Hi onyx

could you tell me where the pack+ pin is located on the board and how much voltage is required to get it started.

    Thanks

    Nikhil

  • Hi Nikhil,
I believe you have this resolved based on your other post.
    thanks
