TLC59116: Why does "Fast Mode I2C" have a minimum rise/fall time requirement?

Part Number: TLC59116

Hello TLC59116 experts!

I am working with a customer on another E2E thread where they are trying to slow down an I2C signal to get it to fit into the specs on page 8 of the TLC59116 datasheet. Specifically, they are worried about the 20ns minimum edge rate for "Fast Mode" I2C.

Personally, I have never seen a minimum limit on a rising edge -- can you expand on why this is in the spec?

Should their system be modified to slow down any edges going into the TLC59116, or will it work fine at <20ns?
