BQ25703A: operation as a buck converter only

Part Number: BQ25703A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24703, BQ24773, BQ24735, BQ24725A, BQ24780S

For this application the input voltage is controlled and regulated, thus guaranteeing that the BQ25703A only operates as buck. Is it safe to eliminate the boost transistor from the circuit, leaving the correspondent pins open? (transistor Q3 in the diagram below). What I mean by safe is that can we honor all of the parameters of the datasheet.

Thanks!

  • bq24703 cannot remove boost FETs to support buck only operation because the boost HIFET also blocks the inductor reverse current at PFM operation.

For buck only charger, we have bq24773 (I2C) and bq24725A, bq24735 or bq24780S (SMBus).
