TPS54340: Convert 10V to 9V

Guru 16770 points
Part Number: TPS54340

Hi

Could you please give us your view about the following consideration?

The customer's requirement is as follows.

Vin : 10V to 35V

Vout : 9V / 2A

According to the datasheet, TPS54340 can operate at 100% duty.

However, we could not simulate using Webench.

Is there any consideration to use TPS54340 for this specification?

  • Hi,

For an application as described above following needs to be considered:

    1. difference between Vin and Vout is very small. This may create issues with re-charging boot capacitor since high side FET will be on most of the time.
    2. see equations 1 & 2 in device datasheet minimum input voltage required as well as maximum output voltage achievable in drop out conditions.
    3. make sure that input is properly bypassed, and there is sufficient amount of input capacitance to support operation when full load is applied.
    4. please take a look at the spreadsheet below, for component calculations for this device (software section)

As always ti is recommended that customer performs thorough evaluation of the device (possibly using EVM or similar tool).

    I hope this helps.

    Best regards
