BQ24192I: How many ampere load can draw in case battery absence

Part Number: BQ24192I

Hello,

I have 2 questions below on the device BQ24192i.
Could you please give me more information about them.

1. How many ampere that load can draw from SYS in the following case:

    a. Battery absence
    b. AC Adapter 12V supply to VBUS
    c. /CE pin = low; PSEL = low
    d. BQ24192i in default mode

In the above case, the registers value are below on my board. These are default value, software doesn't set any value yet:
        REG00: 0x3d
        REG01: 0x1b
        REG02: 0x20
        REG03: 0x11
        REG04: 0x9a
        REG05: 0x9a
        REG06: 0x03
        REG07: 0x4b
        REG08: 0x85
        REG09: 0x00

On my board, when battery is present, the load can draw over 1A from SYS.  But when battery is absence, it is not enough power to drive my load.

2. Is there any way to detect if battery present or not by using this device BQ24192i?

  • Hello,

    1. When the battery is not present, we recommend to disable charge. The system output is regulated by the battery voltage as shown in the graphic below, and thus will fluctuate when the charge is not disabled, as the battery pin voltage changes. If charge is disabled, this SYS voltage will default to SYSMIN + 150mV approximately. If you are using an adapter and have D+ / D- shorted, then the BQ device will default to a IINLIM of 1.5A as your registers show. I would recommend disabling charge and then determining your SYS output current.

    2. There is not a method to determine battery presence with the BQ24192I.

    Regards,

    Parker
