TPS63020: Operation of device latches when static electricity is applied

Part Number: TPS63020

Hi,

I asked the following thread about the latch operation of TPS63020 last time.
After that, I purchased TPS63020 EVM and carried out a similar test.
The test method is shown below.

First, I performed an air discharge of 8kV to 10kV using an ESD gun against the red circle GND pin in the attached figure.
After that, I discharged the charge by touching the GND terminal with the harness connected to earth ground.
After that, when confirming the operation of the device, switching is stopped and even if the EN pin is turned ON/OFF, normal operation is not restored.

I want to check the operation at this time, but when connecting the probe of the oscilloscope, electric charge is released and the symptoms of this time can not be reproduced.

I want to ask you a question.
In the previous thread, I was told that if the negative voltage was applied to the EN pin, the operation of the device was latched, but is there any possibility for my experiment in this time?
Also, can you confirm similar symptoms with EVM?

Best Regards,

  • Hi

I am not sure if we can repeat this experiment in the lab on an EVM, I need to check with our lab experts.
It is unfortunate that this could not be catched on the oscilloscope.
I don't get your point here "but is there any possibility for my experiment in this time?" Could you please clarify?
  • Thank you for your reply.
I apologize for not contacting immediately.

I'm happy that you will see similar symptoms in your laboratory.
And it will be greatly appreciated if you tell me how to deal with it.

Then, I was told from you that the cause of the device latching is that the EN pin is the negative voltage.
In this EVM experiment, when static electricity is applied to the ground, the device latches.
Is it supposed that the device latches by applying negative voltage to the EN pin by applying static electricity?

    Best Regards,

  • Hi,

I asked about device latching behavior as above.
Is there any need to take some measures on the EN pin?
Is there a way for the device not to latch?

    Best Regards,

  • Hi,

Sorry for the late answer, I can not repeat the same measurement in the lab.
for the device not to latch no negative voltage should be applied on the EN pin.
During the ESD test on the TPS63020EVM the device is most likely operated outside its recommended operating conditions causing the latching.
This latching is not expected during operation in the application if operated within the recommend operating conditions
