TPS57160-Q1: schematic review (input filiter and output filter)

Part Number: TPS57160-Q1

Hello,

Could you help review the schematic? especially for the input filter and output filter

Application background: Truck (24V battery, nominal voltage:18V to 32V, the maximum input voltage is 56V), the output is fixed at 5V and with 0.3A output current.

Dongbao

  • First of all, the resistor divider value seems to be off. Reference voltage of this part is 0.8V. The top divider resistance should be 53.6kOhm with 10kOhm as bottom divider, to provide 5V output voltage.
for the input filter, there should be a ceramic capacitor from pin 1 of the diode D2 to ground, so that this ceramic cap and L1 and C72 form the pi shape filter.
  • Thanks for your feedback.
I will ask customer to change the divider resistor, one interesting thing is tps57160EVM violate the design guidance of D/S ( mimum 10Kohm bottom resistor).
With 22uF output inductor, the ripple current is almost 300mA, device will enter critical and discontinus mode in light load, is that okay? Or do we need to increase inductor to 47uF? Thanks.

    Dongbao
  • This is a 1.5A rated part. 300mA peak to peak ripple is 20% of the rated current. It is with in the recommended range. It is ok that the device enters the discontinuous condition mode (DCM) in light load. The efficiency is higher when the part enters DCM.
