Hi there

recently i use BQ34Z100-G1 gas gauge IC with PbA, when i doing the learning cycle, the update statu always stack in 04, now i post my gg file and operation step that you check

is it correct???

    i did the step again yesturday, and the DOD0 and Qmax didn't update when charge rest, the following step shows below:

    4. Rest 5 hours
    5. DOD0 do updated in the last 5 hours
    6. C/2 Charge to full
    7. Rest for >2 hours
    8. the QMax and DOD0 didn't updated during the rest hours
    9. C/7 Discharge to empty(now i'm doing)
    10. Rest 5 hours (not yet)

    can someone tell me what is going on???

  • Hi Yao,

    I have modified the above steps to be more suitable for a lead acid optimization cycle. Please try running your optimization cycle with these steps and post a log of the optimization test if the gauge fails to learn.

    0. Configure dataflash, pack chemistry, perform calibration and export GG File (for later comparison)
    1. Enable IT
    2. Send Reset command (0x0041)
    3. Charge the pack to charge termination.
    4. Rest until the OCVTAKEN flag sets
    5. C/7 Discharge to the termination voltage
    6. Rest until the OCVTAKEN flag sets. At this point, QMax should update and the Update Status should increment to 0x05
    7. Charge the pack to charge termination
    8. Rest until OCVTAKEN flag sets
    9. C/7 Discharge to the termination voltage
    10. Rest until the OCVTAKEN flag sets. At this point, the Ra table should update and Update Status should increment to 0x06

    but i want to confirm the Design capacity and Design Energy first,
    the battery that i use is 39 Ah, 12V, 6 cells, so the value is:

    Design capacity : 39000 mAh/6 cell = 6500
    Design Energy : 6500*2 = 13000
    Design Energy scale = 1

    is that correct???

  • Hi Yao,

    Thank you for clarifying your pack capacity. This will need to be modified.

    Most parameters for the bq34z100-G1 are based on 1s operation. Nominal voltage is used for design voltage below:

    design capacity = 1s cell capacity * # of parallel cells = 39 Ah * 1 = 39000 mAh

    design energy = design capacity * design voltage / Energy Scale = 39000 * 2 / 1 = 78000 mWh

    Due to the firmware of the device, these values will need to be scaled because they exceed maximum allowed values for design capacity and design energy. Please follow the steps in the Scaling App note: www.ti.com/.../slua760

    If design energy is still greater than 32767 after capacity is scaled, the Energy Scale variable may be set to 10 to report design energy in cWh instead of mWh.

    In the last two days, i stack in step 4, the FC flag didn't set when battery  charged to 100%,

    and  the OCVTAKEN flag didn't set when rest time(more then 18 hours) also.

    do you know what is going on??

  • Hi Wenity,

    I have tried to go through your logs, but they are full of errors. Could you please check your physical communication interface between your EV2300/EV2400 and make sure the connection is physically secure?

    Please try logging again and check the LogStatus Column to ensure there are not many errors.

    sorry, it probably my mistake. However, i did the step again, the Update Status did increment to 0x05, but after next charge and discharge step,

    it didn't increment to 0x06, i post the log and gg file that you check, is that anything i did wrong???

  • Hi Wenity,

    There are still quite a few communication errors present in the log. I had to filter the voltage very heavily because of large values over 16000.

    I have attached the image of these filtered logs. Please allow time for the cell to rest after your first and second charge, before you discharge. Currently there is an immediate discharge after charging.

    Also, the gg.csv file was not readable. Many values have been set to 10. Please do not open this file in excel and save it - it will corrupt the hex values and convert floats to differing values of precision. If you did not open it up in excel, the file appears to have very odd values.

    1) Perform another learning cycle, but allow the cell to fully rest after charging and before discharging.
    2) After the third charge in the image below, the cell has still not rested.  Please allow more time to rest.
    3) Please send another gg log from your device before and after your next test.


    Here are the steps again for reference:

    about the communication error, I try to re-install the BQSTUDIO and update the firmware of EV2300, but there are still have communication problem, do you have any ideal??

    and i check the gg.csv link that i posted before, it really has odd value, but i swear i didn't open the file in excel when i save it.

    Just a stab in the dark, but are you using an EV2300 V3.1C? If so, the firmware requires and update. Those files can be found here: e2e.ti.com/.../3225.EV2300FWUpdaterUnprogDev.zip
