TPS65217DEVM: Is the TPS65217D compatible with DDR3 memory if used in a circuit designed for TPS65217C?

Is the TPS65217D compatible with DDR3 memory if used in a circuit designed for TPS65217CEVM?

  • Hi Brian,

the main difference between the C and D version is DCDC1 output voltage, see also

    and

DDR3 supports - to my knowledge - 1.5V only, thus the C-version is required is required for DDR3 (non-LV). The D-version suits DDR3L(V).

    Best regards,

    Frank

  • Brian,

Frank is correct, but the answer may be easier to verify using a different document on the web.

See this User's Guide titled "Powering the AM335x with the TPS65217x" which states on the first page:

TPS65217C is also targeted at the AM335x processor in the ZCZ package, but the DCDC1 output voltage is set to 1.5 V to supply DDR3 memory. This version does not support AM335x RTC-only operation. TPS65217D is identical to TPS65217C, except DCDC1 is set to 1.35 V to support DDR3L.

The schematic for the TPS65217C is shown in Figure 5 on page 8, and there is no schematic shown for the TPS65217D because it is the same.
