Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28950
Hello,
Our customer would like to remodel the USS28950EVM to 260V, 5.6A , 1.5kW output.
Are there any reference circuit for remodeling?
Can we use the UCC28950EVM for 1.5kW output?
Best Regards,
Ryuji

Hello Ryuji
I don't think it is possible to modify the 600W EVM for a 1.5kW output because the entire power train would have to be modified to carry the higher currents and to work at 260V on the output rather than 12V. The daughter card, which carries the controller itself could probably be reused with minimum changes to component values.
The UCC28950 is a good choice for this application however and the Excel calculator tool on the product website along with the design procedure information in the Data Sheet will guide the designer in selecting the correct power components - MOSFETs, transformer etc. etc. One thing I would mention is that output rectification at 260V may be best accomplished with diodes rather than SRs. The efficiency loss will not be high and diodes are significantly simpler to use -
