BQ34Z100: BQ34Z100-G1 battery pack 29Ahr limit

Part Number: BQ34Z100

Hi,

One question about the battery monitor BQ34Z100.

For a project, we have choose this chip to manage a 30Ahr NiMH battery pack.

I recently see that BQ34Z100 is now NRND and you propose BQ34Z100-G1 to replace it.

But in the technical information, you wrote that BQ34Z100-G1 support battery pack up to 29Ahr...

So my question is : Will the BQ34Z100-G1 work with a 30Ahr battery pack ? It's possible to modify this 29Ahr limit in the chip config ?

Thank's in advance for a quick answer

  • Hi Vincent,

The bq34z100-G1 will indeed work with a 30 Ah battery pack. The 29 Ah limit is a self imposed one due to firmware, however, scaling with the gauge will allow for much high capacities.

For more information and instructions on how to scale with the gauge, please refer to the High Cell Count and High Capacity Applications Applications Note found here: http://www.ti.com/lit/slua760

If you have any other questions, please let me know!

    Sincerely,
    Bryan Kahler
