Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM3478, TPS43061
Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools
hi, read all previous blogs--no answers, ball was dropped it seems
issue is sometimes the Create a Custom Part button does not appear while trying to change BOM parts. every webench recently, 12 of them, there is always one part that you cannot Create a Custom Part button. which part is missing the button varies, sometimes the inductor, sometimes mosfet. no pattern.
Most parts have it (caps, resistors, inductor, etc.), but right now I cannot change the Mosfet. for LM43601 design, only 5 mosfets come up, none are any good--high rdson and high Qc.
the LM3478 webench had many good mosfets, none were ideal and optimum, but at least I could add Create a Custom Part.
situation is total stuck for me. I have separately selected some very very good TI mosfets, but cannot Create a Custom Part., so dead end.
Related to this, the parts that webbench BOM starts with are not close to ideal or optimum. the inductors, mosfets, and diode "standard choices" are not good.
Since very little blogs appear about this issue, I suspect most electronic designers just go away. one blogger gave up and bought analog devices. Or accept the terrible parts pre-selected and finish their less-than-optimum design.
I have my LM3478 webench down to 2.3W and about 99% efficient. you can only get this by not using any webench's parts, and creating custom parts.
so every webench design means creating most key parts. even caps, but all this is very time consuming, having to change all parts.
related issue is all custom parts ignore my part number and say custom_xxxx. also, you canot enter all the parameters. price is not an option, shows up as $.10 always.
wish webench would save my excellent choices for custom parts. if I want to change any input value, all custom parts are deleted. big sigh.
