WEBENCH® Tools/TPS55165-Q1: TPS55165-Q1 WeBench and datasheet comparison - error in WeBench schematics generator ?

Part Number: TPS55165-Q1

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hello to all,

Correct me if I am wrong (and I hope I am, as plenty of people already has been doing according to WeBench). In the generated Buck-Boost schematics, with Vout 12V I get this:

https://webench.ti.com/appinfo/webench/scripts/SDP.cgi?ID=869AE5BC0316767B

The picture:

The PG pin is connected to Vout, witch in our case is 12V.

Now reading the datasheet http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tps55165-q1.pdf, page 30:

Text in the gray field says that PG pin cant have more that 5,5V. So this means that using WeBench schematics we will have destroyed the IC ?

Regards

Dainius

  • Thank you for the info. The Webench model is based on the 5V EVM and I think we should be updated for 12Vout version.

However, this webench circuit will not cause damage because of the use of 100k, which will limit the current flowing into the PG pin, in which there is an ESD structure like a Zener to clamp pin voltage. The PG pin rating is 5V and it should not directly be exposed >5.5V.
